City and county prepare for Thanksgiving

In observance of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, all Athens city offices and Limestone County offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29.
These closures will impact all non-essential city and county services, such as administrative offices and courts. Emergency services will remain operational during the holiday period.
In addition to the office closures, both the city of Athens Sanitation Department and the Limestone County Solid Waste Department have announced changes to garbage pickup schedules.
According to a release from the city of Athens, garbage collection will be delayed by one day. There will be no garbage pickup Thursday. All of Thursday’s trash will be picked up on Friday, while all of Friday’s trash will be picked up on Saturday, Nov. 30.
City officials encourage all residents to have their garbage cans and trash bins to the curb no later than 6 a.m.
For Limestone County residents outside of the city’s limits, all Monday, Nov. 25, and Tuesday, Nov. 26, garbage pick-ups should have run as normal.
According to a release from the Limestone County Commission, all of Wednesday and Thursday routes will run on Wednesday, Nov. 27. To accommodate to the extra garbage pickup that day, routes will begin at 4 a.m.
County officials urged residents to have their county designated garbage cans to the curb for pickup no later than 4 a.m.
The News Courier’s office will also be closed on Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
