Virginia S. Lipscomb

Graveside services for Virginia Sandlin Lipscomb, 98, of Capshaw and formerly of Harvest, will be at1 p.m. Thursday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville with Brent Hawkins officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Lipscomb died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at Valley View Health Facility.
She was born April 9, 1912, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Doc and Daisy Sandlin.
Mrs. Lipscomb was a life-long farmer in Madison County and later moved to Capshaw in
Limestone County with her husband, Willie Lipscomb, where they farmed and raised cattle. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, a long-time member of the Capshaw Homemakers Club and an active member of the Limestone chapter of the AARP for more than 30 years. She enjoyed having big dinners and entertaining family and friends.
She was preceded in death by: former husbands, George Luke Bailey II, Thomas E. Ross and Willie E. Lipscomb; her son, George Luke Bailey III; daughter, Virginia Lee Bailey Wherley; granddaughter, Wanda Carlisle Armstrong; and grandson, Melvin Wherley Jr.
She is survived by: daughters, Helen Jane Bailey Smallwood of Athens and Mary Alice B. Abercrombie and husband Shirley of Capshaw; grandchildren, George Luke Bailey IV, William Doc Bailey, Aaron Patrick Bailey, Charles Frederick Bailey, Carl Thomas “Pete” Childers, Allen “Bo” Carlisle, Anthony “Tony” Carlisle, MaryAnn Carlisle Morris, Cindy Abercrombie Witt, Shirley “Peanut” Abercrombie Jr., and Willie E. “Billy” Wherley; numerous stepchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity in memory of Mrs. Lipscomb.
