Marcia L. Hammond
Marcia L. Hammond, 61, of Miami, Fla., died Wednesday at home.
Mrs. Hammond, formerly of Elkmont, died of heart failure.
She was a retired teacher at Kendall School.
She was the daughter of Grady and Mary Martha Usery and stepfather Edd Newby, all deceased, of Elkmont.
She is survived by her husband Charles Hammond and son Trey Hammond; one brother, Steve Usery Sr. and wife Carol; two nephews, Stephen and Grady Usery.
Her wish was to come home with her ashes to be spread over the home place at Elkmont.
Elizabeth Maples Looft
Elizabeth Maples Looft, 104, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at a Selma nursing home. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. today at Athens City Cemetery with Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home in Selma directing.
Mrs. Looft is survived by her niece, Elizabeth Traylor and husband John of Tyler; nephew Raymond D. Maples Jr. and wife Janie of Selma; great nephews and nieces, William T. Maples of Anchorage, Alaska, Stephen C. Maples of Huntsville, Amanda B. Maples of Canton, Ga., Bryant Traylor III and wife Jodi of Montgomery, and Rebekah Maples Traylor of Mobile; a great-great niece, Elizabeth Sullivan Traylor of Montgomery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. John Malcolm Maples; husbands, John Comer and Theodore Looft; son, John M. Comer; and brother, Raymond Maples Sr.
Mable Clem Pullum
The funeral for Mable Clem Pullum, 89, of Athens, will be at 3 p.m. today at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dewey Craft and Dr. Rick Craft officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be from 12-3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pullum died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at Limestone Health Faculty.
Mrs. Pullum was born Feb. 18, 1918, to Earl Clem and Mae Clem in Limestone County. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church and a lifelong resident of Athens. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a devout Christian of the Pentecostal faith. Through her strong faith and belief in God she touched many people throughout her life. She was a positive influence in the lives of her 31 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mae Clem; her husband, Noah Pullum; a daughter, Sue Holt; and two sons, Charles Pullum and Wade Pullum.
She is survived by three sons, Vernon Pullum of Converse, Billy Pullum, Cleabron Pullum, both of Athens; three daughters, Shirley Clinard, Carolyn Bevil, both of Athens, Judy Anerton of Florence; 31 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Keith Pullum, Justin Pullum, Doug Bevil, Barry Nelson, Bruce Pullum, Estil Pullum, Heath Davis, and Thomas Clinard.
Bryant McCreary
The funeral for Bryant “Jimmie” McCreary, better known as Mac, 69, of Harvest will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Royal Funeral Home in Huntsville with the Rev. Jerry Russell officiating. Burial will be in Meadowlawn Garden of Peace. Mr. McCreary died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Huntsville Hospital.
Dorothy Jean Ray
The funeral for Dorothy Jean Ray, 74, of Elkmont, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Marshall Norman officiating. Burial will be in O’Neal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ray died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at home.
Mrs. Ray was born Aug. 7, 1933, to Zollie Lee Hicks and Elvie Leigh Woods Hicks in Madison County. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leon Ray; daughter, Sylvia Ann Ray; great-granddaughter, Anita Rosa Juarez; grandson, Christopher Michael Daniel; great-grandson James Talan Ray; and her parents, Zollie and Elvie Hicks.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Ray of Elkmont, Sherry Diane Crowell of Fayetteville, Tenn.; step-daughter, Debbie Nash of Hazel Green; son, James Wendell Ray of Elkmont; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brothers, J.D. Hicks of Hazel Green, Wayne Hicks, Bobby Hicks, both of Toney, Robert Earl Hicks of Huntsville and James Nolan Hicks of Ardmore.
Pallbearers Devin Ray, Kevin Ray, Chad Lovell, Coy Williams, Bryan Crowell, Freddie Hicks, Randy Crowell, and Dereck Underwood.
