A former Piggly Wiggly employee has been charged with stealing $1,400 from the Elkmont grocery store, an official said.
Brittany Lashea Miles, 20 of 27810 Michael Lane in Toney was charged Friday with second-degree theft in connection with a theft at the store at 25460 Alabama 127, said Limestone County Chief Investigator Capt. Stanley McNatt.
Miles was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting a $2,500 bond, records show.
The arrests was made after store officials said Miles’ cash register reported refunds to customers between January and July 15 that did not agree with inventory, McNatt said.
“They suspected her of taking the money and reported it,” McNatt said. “Limestone County Sheriff’s Investigator Jay Looney investigated, and when he interviewed Miles, she admitted she had been taking money.”
Second-degree theft involves more than $500 but less than $2,500.
