HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Authorities in Hoover are continuing their investigation of the collapse of a deck at an apartment complex that left one person dead and six others injured.

The Jefferson County coroner’s office identified the man who died in the accident Sunday as 25-year-old Gerald Andrew Scribner of Hoover.

Officials say the third-story deck collapsed Sunday night during a Fourth of July celebration, breaking a hole in the deck below it and sending all seven occupants plunging to the ground.

Rusty Lowe, the Hoover Fire Department’s public information officer, says that in addition to the official investigation, an insurance company representing the owners of the complex has begun its own probe.
