Lady Eagles beat Ardmore

Lacy Kerr had three hits, including a home run, a triple and a double, Friday night to lead the Athens High Lady Eagles to a 7-1 season-opening win over Ardmore in the first game of the Sparkman Preseason Tournament at Bob Jones High School.
After three scoreless innings, the Lady Eagles jumped on Ardmore starter Casey Steadman for four runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Brittany Wallace added a pair of doubles for Athens. Whitney Hawkins and Connie Swann each collected one double. Kristina Prater and Brianna Holt had a single each.
Hawkins was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out two for the Lady Eagles.
Shannon Fogg had a double, and Jennifer Ratley and Steadman each had singles for the Lady Tigers.

MADISON – Chris Stewart had one hit, and Brandt Latimer walked and scored when Zach Ooten reached base on a second-inning error, but those were the only highlights for Athens High as it dropped its 2006 high school baseball opener 11-1 to Hazel Green, Thursday night, in the opening game of the Huntsville High Preseason Tournament at Madison Academy.
The Golden Eagles were out-hit 8-1 by the Trojans, walked three batters and committed a pair of errors.
Martin Ezell worked the first four innings, allowing six hits and six runs, while striking out one and walking one. Drew Hill gave up three hits and five runs, while walking two, in the final inning of the five-inning contest.
