The dog days of summer may be coming to a close, but there’s no end in site for the Dog Days Flea Market in Ardmore.

This weekend Dog Days Market embarks once again on a more than 60-year tradition.

It all started with hunters who met on the rural site to trade dogs and has since evolved into a place to trade any number of treasures.

In the past, over a four-day holiday, it has been estimated tens of thousands flock to Ardmore’s 100-acre flea market to take part in the festivities.

Treasure hunters can find anything from horses to hammers and apples to antiques. Refreshments and Southern fares including hamburgers and hot dogs and a full breakfast are also a big part of the event.

“You can find pretty much anything you want there,” said Jeanette Dunnavant, president of the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce.

Dog Days Flea Market, owned by Alex and Tina James, also has an antique store on-site.

“Alex recently expanded his operation,” Dunnavant said. “He has expanded his parking and has included more vendor space.”

Dunnavant said the festivities are great for the economy because they bring a number of people to Ardmore and the surrounding areas to eat, stay and enjoy the weekend.

Dog Days, located at 30444 Gowan Road in Ardmore, Tenn., starts on Friday and runs from daylight to dark until it ends on Monday. There is a fee for parking and a fee for vendors.
