Cody Nave has been a stable force on the Athens Bible School boys’ basketball team for the last two seasons. Keona Shoulder is the driving force for Athens High’s girls inside game.

For those reasons, those two have been selected as The News-Courier/Encore Sports Medicine High School Players of the Week for Feb. 8.

Nave began his week with a 28 of the team’s 43 points in a loss to county rival Clements. Then he put up 21 points in the Trojans’ 63-57 loss to Speake in the opening round of the Class 1A, Area 15 Tournament at Hazlewood on Tuesday night.

Shoulders played in just one game during the past week, but she put an effort which gave the Lady Eagles a chance in Friday night’s overtime loss to Class 6A Decatur.

Shoulders put up 27 points and 14 rebounds and teamed up with Brittany Hovell to give the Lady Eagles an inside force which helped them rally from a nine-point deficit in the final quarter to force the extra period.

The Players of the Week awards are given each week to highlight outstanding athletic performances from a player in one of Limestone County’s eight high schools.

Representatives of Encore who work with various schools in the county have present t-shirts this season to the winners.

Any winners who attend Clements or West Limestone High Schools can go by the Encore office and pick up t-shirts as well.
