Ardmore opens with four wins

GULF SHORES — Aarika Boggs is giving the Ardmore Lady Tigers a strong one-two pitching punch at Gulf Shores High School’s Dolphin Classic.
Boggs matched two strong performances by Casey Steadman with two strong outings of her own Friday and Saturday to help the Lady Tigers go unbeaten in pool play at the tournament.
Steadman struck out nine in beating Class 5A Benjamin Russell on Friday night, then combined with younger sister Callie to no-hit Leroy Saturday morning.
Boggs followed Steadman’s efforts with a one-hitter in a 6-2 win over University School of Johnson City, Tenn. on Friday, then threw a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Monroe County on Saturday.
The Tigers were due to begin elimination play against either Spanish Fort or Jackson on Saturday night.
Against Benjamin Russell, Steadman reached on an error to score Shannon Fogg in extra innings to give the Lady Tigers the win in the international tie-breaker.
Steadman had a double, and Fogg and Jada Norton had singles for Ardmore at the plate.
Against University School, Steadman had a double and a single, while Boggs had a triple to lead the offense.
Steadman continued her work at the plate with a home run and a double Against Leroy. Amy Collier added two singles, while Fogg had a triple and Sarah Jo Taylor a double.
Boggs had three singles and drove in two runs to lead the Lady Tigers Against Monroe County.
Callie Steadman added a double and a single for Ardmore, which got hits from eight different players and runs-scored from 10 different players.
