Athens native John Wahl was re-elected as Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party for his third consecutive term. The vote, which took place during the party’s annual Winter Meeting held in Hoover, highlights continued confidence in Wahl’s leadership and the party’s direction under his stewardship.
“I am honored and humbled to have the support of our State Executive Committee in Alabama,” Wahl said. “This re-election is a testament to the strength of our party and the hard work we’ve put into building a unified, successful platform for our state. I look forward to continuing to work together with our members to advance conservative values and bring lasting change to Alabama.”
Under Wahl’s leadership, the Alabama Republican Party has seen significant growth and success in recent years, with Republican candidates winning key local, state and federal elections, solidifying the state’s reputation as a conservative stronghold. Over the past four years, ALGOP has:
— Flipped 90 seats statewide, expanding Republican representation.
— Defended conservative values and strengthened election integrity.
— Hosted three major presidential candidates and a Republican presidential debate, elevating Alabama’s influence on the national stage.
— Raised over $7.5 million for the Alabama Republican Party and the Trump campaign.
— Played a critical role in electing President Donald J. Trump in 2024, leading strong grassroots efforts and voter outreach in battleground states, including Georgia and North Carolina.
As the youngest State Party Chairman in the country, one of the hallmarks of Wahl’s leadership has been outreach to minority and youth communities, leading the Party to win four seats in majority-minority districts for the first time in recent history.
“Over the past four years, we have made great strides in strengthening our Party, growing our grassroots movement and standing firm for conservative principles,” Wahl said. “But our work is far from over. The 2026 elections will be a pivotal moment for our state and our nation, and I am committed to ensuring that Alabama remains a leader in the conservative movement. Together, we will continue to fight for limited government, individual liberty and the Constitution.”
Wahl’s reelection to a third term comes as the state and nation face pivotal elections in the coming years, and his leadership will be key in shaping the party’s strategy moving forward.
Chairman Wahl was re-elected to his second term as RNC Vice Chairman for the Southern Region in January. He has been active in Republican politics for many years, previously serving as ALGOP’s Senior Vice Chairman, a member of Senator Tommy Tuberville’s transition team, and a delegate to the 2020 Alabama Electoral College. In addition to his political work, he is the Chairman of the Alabama Public Library Service board and a professional butterfly farmer.
