On the night of Wednesday, Feb. 26, through the morning of Thursday, Feb. 27, the Limestone County Emergency Management Agency’s (EMA) warning siren located on Mooresville Road, near Lisa Lane, malfunctioned due to an electronic failure.
The electronic failure caused a high-low alarm sound, which is not the normal sound used to warn the public. A technician was able to locate a faulty component which caused the malfunction and complete the repair. The siren is now back functional.
Below is a list of instructions on Limestone County EMA and Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Warning Sirens.
The Warning Sirens will be activated under the following conditions:
1) A Tornado Warning has been issued for Limestone County.
2) A Tornado Warning has been issued for an adjoining county and the tornado is expected to move into Limestone County.
3) An emergency exists at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant and the public should be alerted to take specific actions.
4) A National Emergency exists, and the public should be alerted to take specific actions.
The warning sirens are tested on the first Wednesday of each month at 9:15 a.m. When you hear a warning siren and it is not a test, you should tune to your local radio or television station for information. Alerts are also provided through our www.smart911.com system, which can alert directly to your mobile device. Should information not be available on radio, TV or EMA’s social media accounts, contact the Limestone Co. EMA at 256-232-2631 or after office hours at 256-232-0111.
The warning sirens are for outdoor notification only. Sirens may not be heard when indoors. Residents need to obtain a weather alert radio to receive notification when indoors.
