On Tuesday, Jan. 14, the Limestone County Narcotics Unit, with assistance from the Athens Police Department Narcotics Unit and Madison County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, conducted a successful operation in the West Limestone community — resulting in significant arrests and the seizure of illegal narcotics, according to a release from the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.

Narcotics units initiated a traffic stop on a small two-door vehicle during the operation. The occupants were later identified as two male residents of Huntsville.

Deputy Levi Williams deployed his K-9 partner, Hoss, who quickly alerted him to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.  Both individuals were searched, following the alert, and a small quantity of Fentanyl and Marijuana was discovered. Both suspects were then placed under arrest and transported to the Limestone County Jail.

“I would like to thank the Athens Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office and all officers involved in this operation for their dedication and teamwork,” Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin stated in the release. “This operation represents the commitment of our office and our local and regional law enforcement partners to combat the distribution of illegal drugs in our communities.  The use of collaborative efforts, like the deployment of K-9 Hoss and the diligence of our correctional officers, played a critical role in ensuring these dangerous substances were intercepted before causing harm.  We will continue to work tirelessly to protect our citizens and hold offenders accountable.”
