Athens took care of business on Thursday. So, too, did Athens Bible.

Both the Golden Eagles (Class 6A) and Trojans (Class 1A) swept their opening-round matchups to advance in the AHSAA baseball playoffs.

Athens recorded 11-1 and 9-1 wins versus Pinson Valley and will face No. 8 Gardendale or Hazel Green in the second round next week.

Athens Bible, meanwhile, coasted past Jacksonville Christian (7-2, 12-4) and will duke it out with No. 2 Sumiton Christian for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Elkmont (Class 3A) saw its season end following a pair of losses to No. 8 Westbrook Christian.
