East Limestone’s varsity boys bowling team fell just short of reaching the mountaintop on Friday night, losing to John Carroll 4-3 in the championship match of the Class 1A-5A state tournament in Mobile.
The Indians (12-4) took down Elberta 4-3 (1,281 to 1,156) in the opening round before defeating defending champion Etowah 4-1 (982 to 857) in the semifinals to set up a title showdown with the Cavaliers (15-1).
East Limestone led three games to two, but John Carroll — which won its first state title in program history — secured a pair of wins in games six and seven to edge the Indians 1,171 to 1,130.
Members of the team include Jackson Foss, Isaac Pohl, Austin Reynolds, Ashton Barber, Aiden Thrasher, Jake Thallas, Baylor Foss and Kaedin Johnson. The Indians are coached by Seth Cox.
