- One of the early striping projects completed by Limestone County’s newly formed crew on O’Neal Road in August 2022.
Entering 2023, the Limestone County Commission made a decision to bring services in house to cut down on cost and efficiently serve Limestone County.
The commission “officially entered the garbage business” in April 2023, according to a comment from District 1 Commissioner Daryl Sammet.
Sammet said that he believed the decision to be good for the county, and since its beginning, county residents have been able to place carts at the road and have them picked up by an automated truck.
The commission also made the decision to purchase equipment to help improve the infrastructure of Limestone County. It was “struggling to get a contract company to be able to respond at the pace (the commission has) been doing work,” according to a previous interview with county engineer Marc Massey.
The decision allowed Limestone County to increase its control over striping quality and the speed at which newly paved roads were being striped. They began practicing on less frequently traveled roads and eventually moved to more trafficked roads in the county.
