The westbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 72 were closed Sunday evening, March 3, after a vehicle struck a pedestrian.

Jesus Ceja, 32, of Athens, was struck and killed near Park Supply on Hwy 72 by a vehicle traveling west.

According to Athens Police Department captain Brett Constable, the driver was cooperative after the incident.

“A westbound vehicle on US 72 near Lucas Ferry Road struck a pedestrian. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. No charges are anticipated,” Constable said.
