AHS Kids Sports Camps

Golden Eagles Youth Football Camp

On Monday, July 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Athens High School will hold its annual youth football camp at Athens Stadium. The camp will be for kids in first through sixth grade for the 2024-2025 school year. Registration for the camp is $30. AHS Mini Eagles Volleyball Camp

The Athens High School volleyball team will host its annual youth summer camp for kids ages 5-14 at AHS Arena from July 22-23. The camp is set for 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for both days. Boys and Men Football Camp

The Athens High School football team will host its annual boys and men football camp for kids in first through sixth grade for the 2024-2025 school year. The kids can bring male role models to participate in a football camp with them on July 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Athens Stadium. Football For Women Camp

The Athens High School football team will host its annual football for women camp for women in the region to showcase through skills on the gridiron. The Athens-Limestone County Public Library will host Robert Bailey, local author of the Jason Rich series, for a meet and greet at 101 N. Jefferson Street on Thursday, June 27, at 6 p.m.

Rock the Square Night

The third Athens Main Street Fridays After Five Music Series, presented by The Orthopedic Center – Athens of 2024, will be on June 28. Each month, attendees can soak up the vibrant atmosphere, enjoy extended shopping hours with local merchants, and enjoy delicious food from local restaurants. Admission to the Fridays After Five Music Series is free. The party starts at 5 p.m., with a DJ warming up the crowd until 6:30 p.m. The main performance starts at 7 p.m. and lasts until 8:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to enjoy the music. Courts Against Cancer

The City of Athens Relay for Life team and Athens Alabama Pickleball Association will host the inaugural Courts Against Cancer Pickleball Tournament on June 29-30 at Big Spring Memorial Park. The Vietnam Veterans of America Post 511 will hold their regular meeting on Monday, July 1. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives.

Make Your Own Candle

The Athens-Limestone County Public Library will hold a candle making event with Flirty Flame Candle Company at the library on Thursday, July 25, at 6 p.m. The cost of the program is $25 for a 9 ounce jar and $35 for a 16 ounce jar. Grammy award-winner singer/songwriter John Berry is celebrating a career milestone with the 30th Anniversary of his #1 hit, “Your Love Amazes Me.” John Berry will be coming to The Princess Theatre Center For The Performing Arts on August 3.

PAWS at the Park Dog Walk

The Limestone Child Advocacy Center is thrilled to announce the upcoming PAWS at the Park dog walk event, scheduled for Saturday, September 14th, from 9:00am to noon at Big Spring Park in Athens.This family-friendly event invites dog lovers and their furry companions to join in a one-mile stroll through the historic Downtown Athens area, followed by a vibrant festival filled with exciting activities and games tailored for both dogs and their owners.

Cemetery Stroll

The annual Athens Cemetery Stroll will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. {span}Costumed re-enactors will portray individuals representing all walks of life from the county’s past on the grounds of Athens City Cemetery in this outdoor theatrical program. The Houston Library has a large selection of paperback Westerns for sale. Fifty cents each. First come first serve. The Houston Library is located at 101 N. The James L. Daniels unit 51 of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary will host its monthly meeting on the second Saturday of each month at 2 p.m.

Delivered plate lunches

The Lighthouse Pentecostal Church hosts a monthly plate lunch sale for its land/building fund. Each plate is $13 and must be ordered by the Wednesday before the second Friday of the month and can be purchased at lapc.churchcenter.com/people/forms/686458, marie9404@gmail.com or (256) 998-0195. Each month has a new menu that can be found on the church’s Facebook page the week before. Deliveries begin as early as 10:30 a.m. to the Athens, Elkmont, Ardmore and Tanner areas.

AMVETS Post 21 themed dinner

AMVETS AL Post 21 (22769 Black Road, Athens, AL) hosts a themed dinner, usually on the third Monday of each month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The dinner is open to the public and costs $15 per person.

Food giveaway

Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church’s food pantry will be open 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month at 1911 Hine St., Athens. Patrons must provide proof of at least one of the following: eligibility to receive supplemental food assistance (SNAP/food stamps); eligibility for Temporary Assistance to Needy Families; eligibility to receive Supplemental Security Income; income at or below 130 percent of the federal poverty level; or special circumstances. Eligibility forms provided at distribution site. Must have valid ID card or driver’s license. Only one distribution per household while supplies last. Monetary and food donations accepted. The Athens-Limestone County Public Library will host its new monthly Book Club at the library on the second Tuesday of every month.

Community outreach day

Freshwind Christian Fellowship is partnering with Women Empowering Women of Alabama to create a day of fun for the whole family every fourth Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at 17200 Lucas Ferry Rd. in Athens through October.
