Lilly Bethune

To say Lilly Bethune put together a fantastic junior season would be quite the understatement.

In fact, just one glance at the junior’s eye-popping numbers speaks to her overall impressiveness.

Limestone County’s coaches certainly agreed — selecting Bethune as the deserving MVP of this year’s All-County Softball Team.

Bethune struck fear into the hearts of opposing pitchers all season long, batting .487 with a .566 on-base percentage, 1.034 slugging percentage and 1.600 OPS. She also totaled 70 RBIs, 58 hits, 52 runs, 23 walks, 18 home runs, nine doubles and a triple in 119 at-bats en route to taking home All-State honors (first-team designated hitter) in Class 4A.

Those contributions helped the Wildcats earn 38 wins and reach the North Regional Tournament.

West Limestone coach Molly Fenn attributed Bethune’s tremendous production to an unwavering work ethic.

“She’s such a threat because she works so hard,” Fenn said. “She’s a power hitter, but she can hit to all fields — and that makes her really hard to pitch to. Whenever we had runners on base and it was her at-bat, she came through for us.”

What Fenn loves most about Bethune, though, is the growth her soon-to-be senior has exhibited.

“Being with her since seventh grade and seeing her progress and get better year after year makes me so excited she’s coming back,” Fenn said. “I’m just so proud of how far she has come and what she can do in the future.”
