- East Limestone’s Xavier Edwards looks for room to run.
In its final game of the season, East Limestone made some good memories.
Jake Cochran threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Ritter with 50 seconds remaining and the two connected again for the 2-point conversion for a 29-28, come-from-behind win over Mae Jemison.
East Limestone (3-7) led 7-0 after Xavier Edwards’ 84-yard touchdown run in the first quarter but trailed most of the night.
Mae Jemison (3-7), which scored all four of its touchdowns on runs of 60-plus yards, led 21-7 before Cochran found Roman Schrimsher for a 10-yard touchdown pass.
Another Mae Jemison score put the Jaguars ahead 28-14 with 8:10 left, but Cochran threw a touchdown pass to Bryson Grissom with 5:04 left to cut the deficit in half.
St. John Paul II 42, Elkmont 20
St. John Paul II scored the first three touchdowns of the game and prevented Elkmont from achieving a .500 record.
The Red Devils (4-6) started 3-0 but lost six of their last seven games, with the lone win in that stretch coming against Colbert Heights. Their 2-4 region mark tied them with Colbert Heights and Phil Campbell, and Phil Campbell earned the fourth and final playoff spot from the region based on a tiebreaker.
Elkmont’s four wins were its most since it won eight games in 2014.
Central-Florence 49, Ardmore 21
The visiting Wildcats (6-4) used a fast start to secure a winning season with a win over Ardmore.
Ardmore closed its season 1-9. The Tigers’ 21 points was their highest total since a 41-14 win over Elkmont on Sept. 29.
