Limestone County seniors are competing this week in the 2023 State Master Games of Alabama. Athens hosted district competitions in several events this past June and those who qualified are now competing for gold, silver and bronze medals against competitors from throughout the state.

Masters Games of Alabama is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles for active adults ages 50 and older. The goal of the games is to promote social, mental and physical activities for this age group.

The State Masters Games will continue through Thursday, Oct. 19, and Limestone’s senior athletes have already earned an impressive haul of hardware from the games. So far, Athens pickleball players have earned six gold medals. By the end of Tuesday’s competition, Limestone County had won eight gold medals and five silver.
