Concerning your recent opinion, “Democracy comes to standstill with GOP chaos,” Oct. 10.

Yes, chaos in the House of US Representatives. But, you know what? It’s everybody’s House! Republicans, Democrats, Independents.

Democrats could easily have avoided the chaos and enabled the House to carry on the people’s business by simply confirming Kevin McCarthy as their speaker. He was their speaker before Rep. Matt Gatez chose to sabotage the House. So, why not speak for their constituents and say we need order so that we can govern? Let McCarthy continue.

It is sophistry to lay the blame entirely at the feet of the Republicans.
