Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Commander Capt. Gary Hood says the baby was injured at home in December and died at the hospital from severe brain trauma.

Carter told investigators she was tossing and playing with the baby and may have accidentally dropped him. An autopsy showed the baby boy had been harmed multiple times over an extended period.

Carter is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. It’s unclear whether she has an attorney.
