Athens City Schools Superintendent Dr. Trey Holladay received good marks on his annual review by the Athens school board.

School board members recently evaluated Holladay and announced the results during Thursday’s regular board meeting. The good marks allowed Holladay to qualify for a bonus of 10 percent of his annual salary. His annual salary is $165,718 and the bonus is $16,571.

School board President Russell Johnson told Holladay it was his sixth year evaluation and that these were the highest overall scores he had achieved. He said that qualifies him for the bonus set forth in his contract.

“I think the results (of the review) show the progress that we are making,” Johnson told Holladay. “They’ve always been very good, but just the last year getting all the things we’ve asked… An outstanding year and we appreciate the hard work. I want to make the motion that we give 100 percent of the bonus in his contract.”

The board — including Johnson, Vice President Beverly Malone and board members Scott Henry, Tim Green, James Lucas and Shannon Hutton — voted 6-0 to accept the results of the review and grant the bonus. Board member Jennifer Manville was absent.

“I would like to thank the board for the kind words,” Holladay said. “Make sure we recognize the principals and the staff who are here. From the bus drivers, custodians all the way up to the central office staff, they do a great job and make me look extremely good. Thank them, and thank you all.”

The review

Holladay was graded on nine tasks using a five-point scale. A score of 1 meant he did not meet expectations while a score of 5 meant he far exceeded expectations. Each of the nine tasks included a subset of tasks, which were also graded on the five-point scale. His scores in each subset resulted in his average score for each of the main tasks.

Holladay’s lowest score on one of the subset tasks was a 4.0 and he scored a perfect 5.0 score on three of the subset tasks. Here were the nine tasks and his average score for each main task:

1.) Performs as educational leader of the schools — 4.7;

2.) Serves as chief executive officer of the school board — 4.7;

3.) Oversees staff personnel management — 4.6;

4.) Oversees facilities management — 4.8;

5.) Oversees financial management — 4.6;

6.) Directs community relations activities — 4.6;

7.) Oversees student services — 4.6;

8.) Maintains superintendent image — 4.7; and

9.) Goals — 4.5.
