Wales tosses no-hitter in win over Tanner

Cole Wales was the star on the mound and at the plate Monday, throwing a no-hitter and scoring four runs in Clements’ 11-1 victory over Tanner.
Wales had six strikeouts and two walks in shutting down the Rattlers. Tanner’s only run came in the top of the first inning due to a walk and an error.
Clements came back in the bottom of the first inning with a run and then took the lead with three runs in the second. The Colts then added four runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to take a 10-run lead. The game ended when Tanner failed to score in the top of the fifth.
Wales and Holden Graves each had two hits for Clements, with one of Graves’ hits being a double. Brady Moore also had a double and two RBIs for the Colts.
BJ Lucas scored the only run for Tanner.
Athens Bible 10, Sumiton Christian 8
Athens Bible scored six runs in the fifth inning in a comeback defeat over Sumiton Christian Saturday. The Trojans went into the bottom of the fifth trailing 7-4 but Matthew Usery hit a two-run double to get the inning started, and ABS scored four more runs to take the lead. Chris Waddell also had an RBI single in the inning.
Cade Abernathy hit a two-run home run for ABS, while Clayton Hamm also had a double. Waddell and Hayden Pierce each had two RBIs for the Trojans.
Pierce was the winning pitcher.
Colbert Heights 9, Athens Bible 7
In the second game of two on Saturday, Athens Bible allowed five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to lose the lead and fall to Colbert Heights.
ABS led 6-4 before Colbert Heights came back with five runs in the sixth to take the victory.
Gage Johns had two hits and two RBIs to lead Athens Bible.
Elkmont 5, West Morgan 2
Elkmont got strong pitching from Brett Parker, who tossed a complete game to lead the Red Devils to a victory over West Morgan Saturday evening.
Parker allowed just two hits and struck out nine batters, while walking just one. Elkmont scored two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to overcome an early deficit.
The Red Devils had just three hits in the game, but took advantage of three West Morgan errors and six walks.
Preston Robinson, Brian Rios and Parker each had a hit for the Red Devils.
East Lawrence 15, Elkmont 1
East Lawrence scored seven runs in the third inning to pull away from Elkmont and take the victory Saturday night.
Jonah Smith and Chance Pepper had hits for the Red Devils.
Ardmore 11, Lawrence County 1
Ardmore scored four runs in both the third and fourth innings to pull away and take an eventual 10-run victory over Lawrence County Saturday night.
Hogan Whitt led Ardmore with three hits, while Bill Williams and Spike Woods had two hits each. Austin Lewis and Whitt also had doubles for the Tigers in the victory.
Williams was the winning pitcher, striking out nine and walking three in five innings of work.
Softball
Elkmont 7, Arab 1
Elkmont scored all seven of its runs in the third inning to take a victory over Arab Saturday night. Sydney Pressnell had an RBI double, while Alyssa Harwell and Haven Kirby each drove in a run with a single.
Pressnell, Harwell and Kirby all finished the game with two hits each. Paige Robinson and Abby Gooch also had RBIs for the Red Devils. Hannah Usery was the winning pitcher.
Central-Florence 5, Athens 1
Central scored three runs in the top of the first inning to help the Wildcats take a four-run victory over Athens Saturday night.
The Golden Eagles’ only run came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Athens out-hit Central 4-3, but committed five errors, which allowed Central to score three unearned runs.
Mary-Greg Anderson, Sarah Green and Anna Carder each had hits for Athens, with Carder driving in the team’s only run. Green’s hit was a double.
