Police seek man who robbed Athens Dollar General

Athens police are actively seeking a suspect who robbed a Dollar General store Monday evening, an official said.

Police Chief Floyd Johnson said the incident occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. at the store on U.S. 72 near the intersection of U.S. 31.

The chief said a female clerk was approached by a white male wearing a red hat, black jacket, tan pants and sunglasses. He claimed to have a gun and told the clerk to give him all the money.

Johnson said no one was injured in the incident.

Police provided a photo of the suspect in hopes of identifying him.
