While shoppers are scoring great deals on everything from electronics to clothing, the Foundation for Mental Health is hoping they’ll make room in their shopping carts for another item — comforter sets.
The Foundation is trying to collect 50 comforter sets for residents of the Mental Health Center of North Central Alabama. The sets should be twin-sized and unisex with sheets and pillow shams or cases included.
“We want all our residents to enjoy the warmth and joy of Christmas, to receive something that’s kind of personal they can use,” said Bill Giguere, development officer with MHCNCA.
Giguere said they chose a goal of 50 because there are 54 residents, some of whom already have comforters but all of whom deserve something that feels good and that they can wrap up and keep warm in.
“These are all adults with a diagnosed serious mental illness,” he said. “We take for granted all the mementos and things we have in our homes, but these folks have next to nothing.”
Comforter sets can be dropped off at any of the following MHCNCA clinics:
• Athens-Limestone Counseling Center, 1307 E. Elm St., Athens.
• Decatur-Morgan Counseling Center, 4110 U.S. 31 South, Decatur.
• Albany Clinic for Children, 1315 13th Ave. SE, Decatur.
• Moulton-Lawrence Counseling Center, 295 Hospital St., Moulton.
• MHCNCA Administrative Offices, 1316 Somerville Road SE, Suite 1, Decatur.
Those who don’t have room in their shopping cart but who would still like to contribute can make a monetary donation of $75 online at www.mhcnca.org or by mailing a check made payable to the Foundation for Mental Health to the Administrative Office address listed above.
The Foundation for Mental Health is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so any gifts or donations can provide a gift back during tax season. For more information on the drive, contact Bill Giguere at 256-260-7325 or email foundation@mhcnca.org.
