Comedy show
Tickets are on sale now for the comedy variety show “Celebrating The Veterans Museum — 20 Years of Collecting Memories,” which will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at Athens Senior Center, 912 W. Pryor St., Athens. The show celebrates the museum with skits, music and stories. Warning: This unforgettable show — reminiscent of classic TV shows of years past — may contain half-truths, minor embellishments or exaggerations. Grand opening

David’s Temple Missionary Baptist Church’s after-school program will resume from 3-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, for students in grades K-12. The American Legion will have its monthly chicken stew luncheon from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21. Cost is $7 for all-you-can-eat eat-ins and $7 per quart for carryouts. Eat-ins include stew, drinks and desserts. Carryout desserts are $1 each with a max of two per quart purchased or four total. Containers provided. United Way of Athens-Limestone County will host Stuff A Bus 2018 book drive Aug. 20-Sept. 30 at 419 S. Marion St., Athens. Donations of used and new books will be given to students in Athens and Limestone County schools as reading incentives.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for ages 60 and older. Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival will be open 6:30–9:30 p.m. every Thursday, Friday or Saturday night through Aug. 11 at 309 E. Forrest St., across from Athens Middle School. Rides for kids include ferris wheel, roller coaster, train, rocket ships, swings, carousel and more. A concession stand is also available with drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken sandwiches, cotton candy, snow cones, funnel cakes and other.

Vendors at the Limestone Flea Market will give away a 32-inch flat-screen television in a drawing to gather school supplies for needy students in Limestone County Schools. Spaghetti dinner
