Summer concert series
Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association and Jimmy Smith Buick-GMC are hosting “Singing on the Square” again this year. The free events are open to the public and will take place 6–8 p.m. at the Limestone County Courthouse, Marion Street side, on the following dates: Friday, Aug. 10, with the Athens State Community Band. Supply drive
Limestone County Churches Involved will host its annual Stuff A Bus school supply drive from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. July 27-28 at Walmart on U.S. 72 in Athens. The following items are needed: book bags, loose-leaf paper, No. 2 pencils, black or blue ink pens, 24-count colored pencils, 10-count markers, pencil pouches, 1-inch or 1.5-inch three-ring binders, composition books, large erasers, glue sticks and highlighters.
Supply giveaway
Free school supply distribution for low-income families and students in both Athens and Limestone County schools will be 1-5 p.m. July 30-31 at First Presbyterian Church Revival Building at 301 W. Washington St., Athens. The goal is to distribute 200 book bags filled with school supplies.
Supply drive/TV drawing
Vendors at the Limestone Flea Market will give away a 32-inch flat-screen television in a drawing to gather school supplies for needy students in Limestone County Schools. To enter the drawing, bring five school supplies or donate $5 at the flea market at 30030 U.S. 72 West, Madison, between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays until Aug. 19.
Book drive
United Way of Athens-Limestone County will host Stuff A Bus 2018 book drive Aug. 20-Sept. 30 at 419 S. Marion St., Athens. Donations of used and new books will be given to students in Athens and Limestone County schools as reading incentives.

Donnell House
The Donnell House will host special tours in honor of its placement in the Alabama PastPort, part of Alabama’s bicentennial celebration. The tours will take place 10 a.m.–noon Tuesdays and 2–4 p.m. Thursdays. Donations are appreciated. More information: 239-249-2211.
Kiddie Carnival
Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival will be open 6:30–9:30 p.m. every Thursday, Friday or Saturday night through Aug. 4 at 309 E. Forrest St., across from Athens Middle School. Rides for kids include ferris wheel, roller coaster, train, rocket ships, swings, carousel and more. A concession stand is also available with drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, chicken sandwiches, cotton candy, snow cones, funnel cakes and other.
Master Gardeners
Applications are now being accepted for the Limestone County Master Gardeners fall class. Class participants will learn to grow healthy landscapes or vegetable gardens, serve the community and become Certified Master Gardeners. Applications can be turned into the Limestone County Extension Office. Space is limited. The class costs $140 and will take place 5–8:30 p.m. Aug. 9–Nov. 8. SNAP signup
Retired Senior Volunteer Program is taking applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for ages 60 and older. Vietnam Veterans of America hosts an all-you-can-eat spaghetti meal from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. and 5–7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month, except November and December, at 17915 W. Elm St., Athens.
