Local teams participate in Elkmont Spring Fling tourney

Elkmont took two victories and tied a game in the Elkmont Spring Fling tournament Friday and Saturday.
The Red Devils defeated Athens Bible 10-2, tied Russellville 2-2, and defeated North Jackson 1-0 before falling to North Jackson 2-1 in the final.

The Red Devils scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to pull away in the win over Athens Bible. Haven Kirby had three hits and two RBIs, while Autumn Davis had two hits and Brilee Miller and Alli Griffis each had a hit and two RBIs. Abby Gooch and Sammie Black also had a hit and an RBI. Malena Butler was the winning pitcher.
Elkmont scored a run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game against Russellville before it ended due to the tournament time limit.
Kirby had two hits and an RBI, while Gooch and Shelby Norman also had hits.
Elkmont scored its only run in the top of the fifth inning to defeat North Jackson Saturday afternoon. Hannah Usery allowed four hits and no runs to pick up the pitching victory. Autumn Davis had two hits to lead the Red Devils.
North Jackson scored a run in the top of the sixth inning to break open a tie game and take the victory in the tournament’s final game.
Kirby led the Red Devils with two hits, while Usery, Gooch and Miller also had hits for Elkmont.

West Limestone 5, West Morgan 0
West Limestone pitcher Baily Browning tossed a one-hit shutout, as West Limestone defeated West Morgan.
Browning was also the Wildcats’ leader at the plate, stroking two doubles and driving in three runs. Allison Perry and Kynleigh Lopez also had two hits each for West Limestone, while Savannah McConnell had a hit and an RBI.
East Limestone 15, Dora 0
Alyssa Tidwell and Olivia Crouch combined for a one-hit shutout as East Limestone blasted Dora.
Kayleigh Tribble had four hits and drove in a run, and Cassidy Sowell had two hits and drove in three runs.
Maddison Watkins had two hits and two RBIs, and Rylie Grisham had a two-run home run as well. Mallory Jo Mitchell also had a hit and two RBIs. Preslei Williams had a hit and an RBI as well for the Indians.
Calhoun 3-1, Marion Military 0-2
Calhoun Community College split a doubleheader with Marion Military Institute, winning the first game 3-0 before falling 2-1 in the nightcap.
Sydnee Uhlman gave up only two hits in the first game and struck out five batters to get the pitching victory.De’asha Gordan and Morgan George both finished with two hits for Calhoun in the win.
Mallory Davis hit a home run for Calhoun in the second game, but that was the only run the Warhawks could muster in the defeat. Gordan, Jessica Shaw, Breeann Biddle and Anita Bates all had hits for Calhoun, which is now 20-10 overall and 7-7 in conference play.
