It was the third time the two teams played each other Friday, with Elkmont defeating East Lawrence in the tournament semifinal 11-1 that afternoon. East Lawrence then won the loser’s bracket final over West Morgan to advance to the championship game against Elkmont, and defeated the Red Devils 5-2 to set up a final game in the double-elimination tournament.
East Lawrence got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Elkmont came right back in the top of the fifth with two runs. Kirby drove in the first run with a triple before she later scored on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Usery.
Kirby added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when she hit a solo home run to left field. That was all Davis needed, as she dominated in the circle, holding East Lawrence to no earned runs while striking out seven batters and only walking two.
Kirby finished with three of Elkmont’s five hits, with Davis and Shelby Norman having the other two.
The Red Devils (28-14-1) will face North Jackson in the first round of the North Regional at noon Friday. The regional takes place at the Huntsville Sportsplex.
