- Dylan Hayes and his wife Kaitlynn hold their son Graysen Wednesday at Athens-Limestone Hospital. Arriving at 12:28 a.m., Graysen was the first baby born at the hospital in 2018.
While some Alabamians were still celebrating the start of 2018 in early hours of Jan. 1, Dylan and Kaitlynn Hayes of Hartselle were preparing to welcome their first child into the world.
At 12:28 a.m., Graysen Scott Hayes was born at Athens-Limestone Hospital. The proud — but tired — parents showed off their new addition Wednesday as they prepared to be discharged on a sunny but cold day.
Graysen slept through his interview with The News Courier and instead let Mom and Dad do the talking. The parents said his first name was one they just liked, but his middle name was chosen in honor of their pastor, Scott Campbell, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Union Grove.
Graysen weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 20 inches long. More impressively, Graysen was born with a full head of hair and two bottom teeth.
When asked about their hopes for their firstborn son, Dad said athletics may be a possibility, given the size of his son’s hands and feet. If he’s good enough to play college sports, however, the parents may have another issue to decide.
“Roll Tide,” Kaitlynn said.
“Go Dawgs,” said Dylan.
After being discharged, the Hayes’ planned to go home and get some rest.
“We’ll probably sleep in shifts,” Dylan said.
