The Athena League recently donated $21,773 to the Athens-Limestone Hospital Foundation.

The funds were proceeds from a 5k race and Halloween party in the fall. The group chose to donate to the foundation’s Pink Elephant Fund in honor of fellow Athena League member and breast cancer patient Britney Carter. “She showed the community her strength, grace and determination,” said a release about the donation.

“In honor of her success story, Athena League wanted to give back.” The funds will go towards the purchase of a new mammography machine.
