Where is your hometown?

My hometown is Athens, Alabama.

Why did you become a teacher?

I wanted to become a teacher because of the profound impact my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. McRee, had on me. She recognized my potential, despite any obstacles I was going through, and she made me feel truly seen. Her belief in me not only boosted my confidence but also inspired me to strive for more. I aspire to create that same supportive and encouraging environment for my students, helping them realize their potential and feel valued every day.

How many years have you been a teacher?

I have been in education for three years.

How many years have you been with Athens City Schools?

I have been with Athens City Schools for three years.

What is the best part of your day?

The best part of my day is our reading block. I love teaching and modeling new reading skills. I especially love making our read-aloud books come to life. It’s a great opportunity to foster a love of reading and immerse students in new worlds and ideas.

Who has been your greatest source of inspiration?

My parents and former teachers are my greatest source of inspiration. I’m a first-generation American, so I always saw my parents overcome hardships and obstacles which inspired and taught me a growth mindset. I also had teachers that were great sources of inspiration. They embraced me, reached out to me, and taught me more than just the academics. I am forever grateful for them.

How do you hope to inspire your students?

I hope to inspire my students by building strong relationships with them. I try to make students feel valued and understood, hoping they develop a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.

What advice would you like to share with new teachers?

Be adaptable. Plans will change, and that’s OK. Also taking care of yourself is important.

What is your greatest hope for your students?

My greatest hope for my students is to always have a love for learning.

What are your hobbies, interests or other things you like to do as an

individual or as a family?

I love painting, going on walks and reading.

It is the season of Thanksgiving. For what are you most grateful?

In this season of Thanksgiving, I am most grateful for my health, family and friends.
