Athens police seek motorist who defecated in pharmacy drive-thru area

As a pharmacy manager, Lisa Milby thought she had seen everything — until Thursday morning.
She was looking out a window at Westside Pharmacy in Athens, which her husband Terrell co-owns, when she saw a woman standing outside her sport utility vehicle in the pharmacy’s drive-thru exit.
“I also saw something else but I wasn’t sure if I was really seeing what I thought I saw,” Milby said, referring to what looked like feces on the ground by the woman.
While the woman was still standing by her SUV, Milby said she rewound the video from the pharmacy’s surveillance camera and reviewed it. About that time, the woman drove away.
The video showed the woman stepping out of her SUV and defecating on the asphalt. It also showed the woman pulling out a cellphone and photographing of her work.
“It’s just appalling,” Milby said. “It’s a health risk and it was done right in broad daylight during open hours.”
The incident occurred between 9:13 and 9:16 a.m.
“There is a public restroom available at the pharmacy,” Milby said. (Based on the amount of time the woman spent finding a secure place to stop her SUV, she had plenty of time to make it into the store’s restroom.)
Milby reported the incident to Athens police, a group better trained to handle a drive-by shooting than a drive-by defecation.
Although an officer took a report, there can be no movement toward arresting anyone until the person is identified, Chief Floyd Johnson said.
“They called and an officer did go out,” Johnson said. “It’s one of those cases where you really don’t know what to say about it. If we figure out who it is, we need to talk to her. We will let a court magistrate make the determination on whether to issue a warrant.”
Officers may be able to identify the SUV through the process of elimination. Then, hopefully, police can flush out the suspect.
Milby briefly posted the video taken by the store’s security camera to her Facebook page to help identify her. She dubbed the woman the “parking lot pooper.”
Motive
That the woman took the time to photograph the evidence suggested a malevolent motive for the act.
Milby said the woman may be angry about something.
“We really have to watch people, inside and outside,” Milby said. “We have strange things that happen — illegal selling of prescription medication and, recently, we saw someone crush medication and snort it on the dash (of a vehicle). We’ve seen it all — at least we thought we had.”
Illegal or suspicious activities are reported to police, and while officers sometimes end up arresting those involved, sometimes they don’t. As a result, some people hold a grudge, though Milby said neither she nor any other pharmacy staffers recognized the woman as a current or former customer.
