A Limestone County sheriff’s deputy on routine patrol ended up arresting a man who had in his possession 10 packets containing a total of 1.9 grams of heroin, records show.
According to a complaint filed in Limestone County District Court, Deputy Justin Bommarito was patrolling near Saxon Lane and East Limestone Road about 4:55 a.m. July 31, when he noticed a man removing items from a black GMC Yukon parked in the driveway on Saxon Lane. Because of the hour, the deputy turned his patrol car around to investigate further. While observing, he saw the man removing items following what appeared to be a trip to the grocery store. As a result of previous calls to the home, the deputy recognized the man in the driveway as Joseph Dylan Stagner, 30, of 27524 Saxon Lane. The deputy believed Stagner had an outstanding warrant through Ardmore Police Department. After a dispatcher confirmed an active warrant, the deputy arrested Stagner for Ardmore police. However, during his search, the deputy found a black magnetic key box that contained 10 individually packaged “points” of a powdery substance Stagner said contained heroin.
The suspect was arrested without incident and taken to the Limestone County Jail.
The deputy obtained an arrest warrant charging Stagner with possession of a controlled substance – heroin.
