DECATUR (AP) — An Alabama man has been sentenced to three years in prison for manslaughter in the death of an 85-year-old pastor.

The Decatur Daily reports a Morgan County grand jury indicted 36-year-old Justin Lee Moore, of Hartselle, last year. It stemmed from a two-vehicle crash in September 2015 that claimed the life of Melvin Brown, a pastor at Valhermosa Springs Holiness Church.

The grand jury found Moore recklessly caused Brown’s death.

Moore’s trial was slated to begin Monday, but he accepted a plea agreement last week. Under the agreement, Moore received a 15-year split sentence, requiring him to serve three years in prison and an additional three years on probation.

If he violates probation, officials say he would be subject to serving the full 15-year sentence behind bars.
