An Athens man was critically injured Monday after being struck on a motorcycle Sunday in Ardmore.

A Huntsville Hospital spokesman said 23-year-old Jared Bailey was in intensive care.

According to state troopers, Bailey was injured in a collision with a 2015 Hyundai driven by William Pierce of Prospect, Tennessee. Bailey was wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred about 12:55 p.m. near the off-ramp of Interstate 65 at the intersection of Alabama 53.

Troopers said Pierce was not injured.

The crash caused a significant traffic backup as first responders worked the scene. Troopers are continuing to investigate the cause.
