Council may amend gas rates, OK sidewalk agreement

Athens City Council members are expected Monday to consider amending gas rates and entering into an agreement with the state transportation department for sidewalks along Pryor Street and U.S. 31 to serve the new high school.

Those are just a few of the items listed on Monday’s council meeting agenda. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 200 W. Hobbs St.

The premeeting work session is scheduled for 5 p.m., at which time council members typically discuss the items listed on the agenda.

Both meetings are open to the public.

Public hearings

• Council will take public comments on a proposal to rezone property owned by Belle Mina Land Co., located southwest of the intersection of U.S. 72 and McCulley Mill Road and within the corporate limits, from a B-3 highway business district to R-1-3 single-family, high-density residential district.

Regular calendar

• Request from Aldi Inc. for a license to sell retail beer and wine for consumption off premises;

• Ordinance authorizing the issuance of the city’s principal amount of water and sewer revenue warrants;

• Ordinance amending gas rates;

• Resolution for the city to enter into an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation for sidewalks along Pryor Street and U.S. 31;

• Resolution to accept the proposal from Morell Engineering to prepare plans for bid of the safe room located at Cowart Elementary School; and

• Resolution to issue a task order to Reed Contracting for paving.
