For The News Courier.
The Limestone County Historical Society’s annual fundraising event has begun with its annual Christmas ornament commemorating Isom’s Orchard is now available at Osborne’s Jewelers.
Three hundred 24-K gold-plated, collectible, numbered ornaments each coming in a velvet folder with an insert giving information and historical significance will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis for $20.
In addition to this year’s ornament, the historical society is offering another 250 of the 2023 Saturn IB Rocket ornament, commemorating the rocket that was removed last year from the Alabama welcome center. Due to the high demand for last year’s ornament, the society reordered for a second time and hopes that those who were unable to purchase one last year can now.
Each year the historical society chooses a historic Limestone landmark, place or event for their ornament which is the only fundraiser of the year. Isom’s Orchard was chosen this year because it has grown to be an iconic place in Limestone County, drawing visitors from all over North Alabama and beyond. Its history with that of the Isom family in Limestone County goes back more than 200 years.
All funds raised by this sale go toward the work of the Limestone County Historical Society, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to locate, mark and preserve historical sites and records in Limestone County while furthering an interest in local history.
