SNAKES: The more you know

If you are wondering how to tell a venomous snake from a non-venomous one, follow this advice from Spenser Bradley, who handles forestry, wildlife and natural resources management for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

• Venomous snakes in North Alabama have triangle-shaped heads and vertical pupils (like cat’s eyes).

• Non-venomous snakes in North Alabama have oval or rounded heads and round pupils.
