Amber Alert victim Elizabeth Thomas, 15, went home Thursday after authorities found her and accused kidnapper Tad Cummins, 50, this morning in a remote cabin in Cecilville, California, according to authorities.

The six-week search that began March 13 in Thomas’ hometown of Columbia, Tennessee, spanned the nation and brought in more than 1,500 tips as law enforcement and civilians kept an eye out for the silver Nissan Rogue Cummins and Thomas were last seen in, and it was the Rogue that ultimately helped law enforcement find them.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said they received a call about 11 p.m. Wednesday from someone in Cecilville who said he or she saw Cummins and Thomas and believed they were in a cabin. When they reached out to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, they were informed the same person already called them.

The cabin is located in a remote area with little to no cellphone service, authorities said.

When officers got on the scene, they were able to identify the Rogue as Cummins’ through the VIN.

Authorities reportedly watched the area for several hours and arrested Cummins Thursday morning at daybreak.

TBI director Mark Gwyn said at a press conference Thursday he couldn’t be happier to tell everyone Thomas is on her way home and Cummins potentially faces “a set of charges to keep him behind bars for many years.”

“I can’t say how thankful we are for all your tips, your concern and your support having made the difference in this six-week search,” he said. “As we have said from the start, it only takes one tip and this is another example of the the public helping rescue a kidnapping victim.”

Cummins faces state charges of aggravated kidnapping and a misdemeanor charge, and a federal charge of transporting a minor across state lines for the purpose of sexual intercourse.

An FBI spokesperson said at the press conference when Thomas arrives home to Maury County, they are going to give her time to get reacquainted with her family and friends and offer counseling or therapy if she needs it.

He said Thomas appears to be healthy and unharmed, but authorities are concerned about her emotional and mental state, and will continue to view her as a potential witness and victim in the case.
