Pre-K registration deadline

Friday is the deadline to complete registration for the Limestone County Board of Education’s Office of School Readiness pre-K classes. Parents can register pre-K children online at www.lcsk12.org. Pre-K is available at the following schools: Blue Springs, Cedar Hill, Elkmont, Johnson, Piney Chapel and Tanner.

Limestone County Master Gardeners Association is available every Tuesday and the first Saturday of every month at Athens Limestone Public Library from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. to answer gardening questions.

Nelson Mandela forum, part 2

Athens State University’s Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics will host a second forum from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday based on Nelson Mandela’s memoir, “Long Walk to Freedom.” The forum focuses on the practical wisdom and life lessons taken from the life journey of Mandela, and how to recover from setbacks with renewed hope, communicate and reconcile with enemies and master circumstances. The event will be held in the upstairs Technology Room of the Athens State University library. The public is invited.

Boy Scouts community breakfast

The Boy Scouts of America Greater Alabama Council’s Athens-Limestone County Breakfast is set for 7-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Limestone County Event Center, 114 W. Pryor St. in Athens. Walking tours

ATHENS — Free Athens Historic Walking Tours begin Saturday at the Athens-Limestone County Tourism Association at the Athens-Limestone Visitors Center, 100 N. Beaty St. Be there at 9:45AM for check-in and tour selection. Expect a 1 or 2-hour long tour, which begins at 10 a.m.. Comfortable shoes and light jacket are suggested. MOORESVILLE — Free Mooresville Historic Walking Tours begin Saturday at the Mooresville Post Office. Be there at 10 a.m. for a 1-hour tour encompassing the history and architecture of Mooresville. These tours will also be held April 8, 15, 22 and 29. More information: www.mooresvilleal.com.

Ballroom dance classes

A 10-week series of dance classes featuring swing, waltz, foxtrot, and rumba are being held from 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday at Pincham-Lincoln Center through May 23. Taught by a certified ballroom dance instructor the classes are $50 per person which covers all 10 classes. No partner required. Proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity. Vidalia onions sale

Athens Ladies Civitan is now taking orders for the annual Vidalia onion sale. The price is $10 per 10-pound bag. The deadline for orders and payment is April 15. Onions expected to arrive in early May. Proceeds benefit programs for special needs children and adults in Limestone County. Orders can be taken by any Ladies Civitan member or at 256-233-0258 where a message can be left for a return call, or at 256-658-1985.

County Relay for Life registration

Registration is underway for the Limestone County for a Cure Relay for Life team’s second annual Cornhole for a Cure Tournament on April 22 to benefit American Cancer Society. Fee is $40 per team through April 20, and $50 thereafter and the day of the event at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena on Alabama 99. Elkmont beauty walk

Registration is underway for the 12th annual Elkmont Beauty Walk at Elkmont High School to be held April 21-22 as a fundraiser for the school band. Registration deadline is April 7. Entry fee is $35 and $5 to enter photogenic. There is a $5 admission charge at the door at 7 nightly and at 2 p.m. on April 22. Competition includes kindergarten through fifth grade, babies through preschool, sixth through 12th grades and a 12th-grade guys division. Entry forms and money can be turned in at the Elkmont band room, Keila’s Hair Salon in Ardmore, any band booster officer or mailed to Keila Berzett, 29200 Ragsdale Creek Road, Elkmont AL 35620.

Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful is seeking exhibitors and vendors for its Earth Day & Outdoor EXPO set for 1- a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 in Athens.
