Two Athens residents were arrested Thursday — each on four charges of aggravated child abuse — after recently being indicted by a Limestone County grand jury, records show.

Dwight Posey, 65, and Priscilla Turner, 56, both of 9942 Snake Road, Athens, were released from the Limestone County Jail after each posted a $20,000 bond on the charges, records show.

There was no information available Friday about what the two are accused of doing to merit the indictment. Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones was not available to comment at press time Friday.

Under Alabama law, a person commits the crime of aggravated child abuse if he or she tortures, willfully abuses, cruelly beats or otherwise willfully maltreats any child under age 18.

The penalty upon conviction of the Class B felony is not less than one year nor more than 10 years in prison.
