Man accused in New Year’s shooting held on ICE charge

The man charged with criminally negligent homicide in the shooting death of an Athens 5-year-old is back in jail.
Fidel Rodriguez Canchola, 34, was arrested Wednesday and is in Limestone County Jail on hold for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to arrest records.
Canchola is awaiting trial after he allegedly accidentally shot and killed a 5-year-old girl during a New Year’s Eve party on Buckskin drive. Canchola was allegedly firing a pistol into the ground to celebrate the New Year when the girl walked into his line of fire, investigators said.
