Though the statewide burn ban for Alabama has been lifted, the Tennessee Valley Authority on Friday announced the ban would continue on all TVA-managed public lands.

“All open flame sources remain prohibited — including campfires, barbecues, smoking or any other flame producing activity,” said a press release. “In addition, visitors are asked to park only on paved or gravel surfaces.”

The utility also announced the majority of public areas TVA had closed because of fire danger would be reopened by the end of the day Friday. Exceptions include areas normally closed during the winter and some isolated primitive areas in locations that still have a higher fire risk. Signs and barriers will remain in place in the limited number of closed areas.

“Along with other federal, state and local agencies, we’ll continue to closely monitor conditions and will take additional steps as needed to help ensure the safety of the public,” the release said.
