Athens police are investigating a late Thursday shooting that left a man in serious condition, an official said.

Chief Floyd Johnson said his department received a call shortly after 10 p.m. that a man had been shot in the abdomen in the 1200 block of Brownsferry Street. Officers arrived and located the victim, who was transported by Medflight to Huntsville Hospital. Johnson did not know the current condition of the victim.

The chief said no one has been charged in connection to the shooting, but added investigators are talking to a suspect. He said more information would be available this afternoon.
