With thunderstorms in the forecast for Saturday evening, organizers of the North Pole Stroll in Athens have rescheduled a planned visit from Santa Claus.

St. Nick will instead appear at the Duck Pond at Athens’ Big Spring Memorial Park from 5-7 p.m. Friday. He will read “The Night Before Christmas” to children in attendance.

Crews with the city’s parks and rec department will set up bleachers to accommodate children who want to enjoy storytime with Santa. The event is free.

The North Pole Stroll features live Christmas trees donated by Lowe’s of Athens. The trees were decorated by various businesses and agencies with themes such as showcasing family pets, honoring those who have or are battling cancer, Limestone County history and more.

Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful also brought back the snowman family made from recycled tires with this year’s theme being “Tired of Waiting on Santa.”

The North Pole Stroll is available for viewing throughout December.
