The shooting of a man who was on the front porch of an Athens home may have been a case of mistaken identity, an official said Wednesday.

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson said 29-year-old Michael Deangelo Mosley doesn’t appear to have been the intended victim in the Dec. 8 shooting. The incident occurred in the 700 block of Brownsferry Street shortly after 10 p.m.

Mosley was shot in the upper right abdomen and was transported via MedFlight to Huntsville Hospital. Johnson said Mosley was recovering from his injury, but had no details about his condition Wednesday.

Kevaun Roosevelt Turner, 25, was charged Dec. 12 with first-degree felony assault and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. He was also charged with second-degree assault stemming from a July 2 shooting on Acorn Hill Circle.

“We believe (Turner) was aggravated and upset with another guy and just shot the wrong person,” Johnson said about the latest shooting incident. “We believe it may have stemmed from an argument over some pills and just escalated.”
