Athens State homecoming events set for Aug. 5-6

Athens State University’s homecoming festivities are set for Aug. 5-6, which will also coincide with the school’s summer commencement ceremonies.
Homecoming events kick off Friday, Aug. 5, with Boots & BBQ, a benefit dinner at Founders Hall. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be catered by Greenbrier Barbecue, owned by an Athens State alum.
The dinner will feature entertainment from Union County Line, featuring Weston Stewart. Stewart, a 2012 Athens State alum was crowned 2011 National Banjo Champion. Music starts at 7 p.m. on the stage in front of Founders Hall.
Summer commencement exercises are set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, according to a press release. The Athens College Class of 1966 has been invited back to campus to celebrate its 50th anniversary and members have been invited to participate in the commencement ceremony. The guest speaker at commencement will be alum Dr. Carl Evans.
Lemonade and cookies will be served under the alumni tent following graduation.
“We look forward to celebrating our alums at Homecoming,” said Trish DiLullo, director of Alumni Affairs.
