A blood drive in honor of late mayor and state representative Dan Williams will be held 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Thursday in the LifeSouth Bloodmobile at 200 W. Hobbs St. in Athens. Each donor receives a LifeSouth gift.

Coffee Call

The Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives Coffee Call is 8-9 a.m. Saturday at 100 W. Pryor St. Champion Chevrolet is the sponsor.

Special book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a special book sale from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at the library, 603 S. Jefferson St. Most books will be for sale at reduced prices. More information: 256-232-1233.

DAV band night

The James L. Daniels chapter 51 Disabled American Veterans and Helping Limestone County are featuring the 251 Detour Band every Saturday night from 7-11 p.m. at the DAV building on Airport Road. Doors open at 5. Admission is $5. Children age 8 and under admitted free. Nonsmoking. Concessions. Family oriented. Proceeds benefit DAV and community-support events. Used book sale

Friends of the Athens-Limestone Public Library will hold a used book sale from 10:15 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. Tuesday at the library, 603 S. Jefferson St. More information: 256-232-1233.

End of life planning event

Hospice of Limestone County, Athens-Limestone Hospital and Athens State University are sponsoring a community event on the importance of end of life planning at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Athens State ballroom. Dr. Monica Williams-Murphy is the speaker. Limited seating. Free lunch and continuing education units. Reserve seats at 256-233-9122.

CEMETERY CLEANUPS

• O’Neal Cemetery. Decoration Day is Saturday, May 7. If unable to attend, donations made out to O’Neal Cemetery can be mailed to: Charlotte Bates, 10576 U.S. 72, Athens, AL 35611.

• Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Annual cleanup begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 7. Participants are being asked to help make “the cemetery look nice for Mother’s Day.” Old flowers will be removed. Donations also needed for upkeep but cutting cemetery grass can serve as a donation. More information: 256-431-1338.

Camp Hope volunteer training

Senior citizens transportation

Transportation is available through Limestone County Council on Aging for all senior citizens of Limestone County. Includes transport for shopping and to doctor appointments for county and city residents. There are guidelines for doctor appointments. More information: Jennifer W. MEETINGS

• AHS Class of ’56. Athens High School Class of 1956 will meet at the Green Tomato in Ardmore at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4. More information: 256-232-4121.

• American Legion. American Legion Post 49 and the Ladies Auxiliary will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the Post home, 124 Cloverleaf Drive. More information: Rod Huffman 256-233-3023.

• Master Gardeners. The Limestone County Master Gardeners Association will meet Monday, May 9, in the Extension Office on Market Street in Athens. Social time/refreshments 12:30-1 p.m. Buster Williamson will speak at 1 p.m. about “Irrigation Techniques in the Home Garden.” The meeting will follow. The public is invited.

• DAV. Disabled American Veterans will hold its regular monthly meeting with food and fellowship at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at 25396 Airport Road. A business meeting follows at 7. All veterans with disabilities are welcome.
